What Did Jermaine Jenas Do To Get Sacked

Former Match of the Day and One Show star Jermaine Jenas has said he is "speaking to his lawyers" after being sacked by the BBC over allegations of sending inappropriate messages to a female colleague.

Jenas said there are "two sides to every story" and he would let his "lawyers deal with it".

The former footballer's contract was terminated this week following allegations involving non-consensual digital communications, including texts to a member of the production team.

The matter was brought to the BBC's attention several weeks ago. The corporation announced his departure on Thursday but did not provide further details of the allegations.

Later that day, he was asked about the claims on talkSPORT radio but said: "I can't really speak about it."

He told the station: "As you can probably tell, I'm not happy about it."

Asked if he was surprised that a complaint had been made against him, Jenas replied: "I can't speak right now.

"I've got to leave it with a team of lawyers at the moment who, yeah, I think are handling the situation."

"It's... yeah, it's tough, you know, but I've got to listen to my lawyers."

A BBC spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting line-up."

His last appearance for the corporation was at the start of the summer.

BBC News contacted 21 people who worked on his programmes but none of those who responded would comment publicly.

When news of his departure from the BBC broke, he was on air as a guest presenter on the talkSPORT Drivetime show.

A statement from the station said: "We were made aware of a breaking news story involving Jermaine Jenas as he was on air for a one-off presenting slot on talkSPORT Drive.

"We decided - in conjunction with Jermaine - that he should continue to present the show.

"Given a raft of serious allegations while the story was developing, it is for Jermaine as a private individual to address them in a way he sees fit.

"There are no plans for Jermaine to present on talkSPORT in the near future."

Jenas also works as a football pundit and co-commentator for pay-TV channel TNT Sports, and fronts their Formula E racing coverage.

Jenas' profile was removed from his agent's website on Thursday evening.

His dismissal from the BBC comes three months after he won the Best Football Ally award at the 2024 Women's Football Awards.

He said at the time that he had "always supported the women's game" and that his mother had raised him to be a "strong advocate for women in sport".

In previous years, the award winner had been selected from a shortlist of nominees, but Jenas' award was given to him outright.

At the time of writing, the Women's Football Awards website has been taken down for maintenance. The BBC has contacted the organisation for comment.
